    My Teaching Style
My teaching approach is flexible and student-centered. I focus on the topics that you want to learn and explain them in-depth, along with how to approach similar topics. If we're not covering a specific topic, we'll practice questions instead. I emphasize understanding the concepts and thought process behind approaching questions, rather than just memorization.

My goal is to build a strong foundation of knowledge that will help you tackle challenging questions later on. I like to connect new material with what you've already learned to reinforce your understanding, and I often ask students to explain concepts to me in their own words to make sure they really understand.

I want our lessons to be relaxed and friendly, so you can feel comfortable asking questions without hesitation. However, I do expect you to engage and try your best to understand the material before moving on. Progress may be slow, but as long as we're making progress, we're on the right track.

I have a track record of helping students improve their grades, regardless of their initial standards. This includes helping students go from a 5 to a 7 on the IB HL Chemistry exam and improving iPY4 (Integrated Programme Year 4) math grades from a B4 to an A1. My Teaching Style

I teach using the IBDP syllabus and make sure to keep things interesting by adding in related stories and interesting facts. I don't believe in hard memorisation, but instead focus on understanding the material and remembering the basics, which will help students logically figure out the rest.

As an IB graduate myself, I am familiar with the syllabus, workload, assessment style, frequently asked questions, and important concepts for the exams.

In class, I teach students mnemonics to help remember factual information and encourage them to come up with their own methods. Each lesson includes a 15-minute verbal quiz and recap of the previous lesson, followed by 1h 15min of new content each week. This helps clear up misunderstandings and encourages students to study regularly, reducing the workload in the end.

As the IB exam approaches, we focus on applying knowledge through past papers and revision of previous topics. During lessons, I guide students to take notes, emphasising key words and using drawings and pictures to aid their understanding. These methods have helped my students improve by 2-3 grades for their final exam, with 80% of them achieving a grade 7.

I believe that learning is not just about the books and the marks, but also about appreciating the journey. Therefore, I work hard to build trust and rapport with my students, providing a supportive and encouraging learning environment that fosters a love of learning.

    My Teaching Style

My teaching style revolves around igniting a genuine passion for learning in my students. Drawing from my own experiences as a student and a tutor, I firmly believe that interest is the key driver for effective learning. I admit that initially, I had a love-hate relationship with certain subjects, but over time, I developed a curiosity and genuine interest in each of them, all thanks to the passionate teachers who inspired me.

In my lessons, I strive to break down complex concepts, making them less daunting and more accessible to my students. I have experienced firsthand how teachers' enthusiasm can positively impact a student's perception of a subject, and I aim to impart the same enthusiasm to my students. By teaching in a systematic manner, I aim to equip my students with the tools and knowledge needed for successful learning.

I pride myself on being an adaptable and patient tutor, placing the individual needs of each student at the center of my teaching approach. I strive to foster an environment that encourages questions and embraces failure as a crucial step towards progress. Together, we will overcome obstacles and grow as learners.

Having gone through the Singapore education system and being exposed to various tuition experiences, I understand the value of personalised teaching. My goal is to provide that personalised attention to my students, helping them unlock their full potential academically. Ultimately, I find it most important that my students feel confident in the subjects they study and are empowered to do their best.

    My teaching style

At the Primary School level, it's more rigid since there's very specific learning outcomes for each topic, and for exams one just has to memorise the answers.

For lessons based on mastery of skill (eg English composition), I tend to be more flexible, so i'll plan lessons based on improving vocabulary, understanding grammar structure, learning how to plan an essay, etc.

    My Teaching Style

I believe in a practical teaching approach. Solving past year questions is key for strong exam performance. In each session, I focus on 1-2 topics.

Before our lesson, I ask students to read up on the topic. I provide them with my own notes, combining exam papers, ACSI IB slides, and IB textbooks that I used during my IB days. I also give them a few questions to work on before class.

During our lessons, I go through important learning points and concepts. I adapt each session to the student, addressing any misunderstandings they might have (based on the assigned questions)

After our lesson, I encourage students to message me on WhatsApp if they have questions about the topic or need help with Internal Assessments

My teaching style is all about practicality, individual attention, and helping students succeed in their studies.

    My teaching style

My teaching style is centered around prioritising my students' learning and providing individualised support to help them maximise their potential. I understand the challenges that come with learning Economics, having been a former IB Economics student myself. Therefore, I strive to help my students not only grasp concepts but also find enjoyment in learning. I achieve this by using fun analogies and real-world examples that keep the subject engaging and relevant.

In addition, I ensure that my students are fully prepared to meet the demands of the curriculum by teaching according to the IB syllabus guide and utilizing my extensive collection of notes, summaries, and real-world examples that I am continuously updating. During lessons, I also familiarize students with the exam structures and requirements, linking concepts to how they can be tested.

My methods have helped even the weakest Economics students transform from failing to achieving top grades, including a score of 7. Throughout the learning journey, I guide and support my students to help them reach their goals in a safe and welcoming environment where they feel comfortable to try.

Having supported children with special needs on the weekends for the last 6 years, I am able to adapt rapidly to the ever-changing needs of the children I support, formulating solutions on the fly to ensure they are actively engaged in the activities we participate in. This also means I am not one to back down from challenging situations, instead approaching each case with patience and an open mind. These skills have proved helpful over the years and evermore when I began volunteering my time to tutor at-risk youths. As I taught them, I sought to listen actively to their struggles with the subject before synthesising ways to help them understand concepts in ways that best suited them.

In doing so, I aim to create a space where students are able to discover connections across various topics, and hence come to terms with the broad demands of the examinations.

Apart from imparting hard skills and knowledge, I wish to be able to work with students to help them discover and practise a style of learning that works best for them. To do so, I will provide space for students to discover how best they learn by exercising flexibility and personalising our way of learning and teaching.

Ultimately, I hope that my lessons with students can be two-way conversations where students can openly discuss ideas of interests and particularly areas of weaknesses. By keeping an open and creative mind, I believe these sessions can best help students learn and appreciate the nuances of each subject.

    My Teaching Style

In my teaching style, I foster an environment that encourages student exploration and active learning. Rather than simply covering the syllabus, I aim to guide students towards attaining a deep understanding of the subject or topic at hand. By going beyond the prescribed curriculum, students gain a broader perspective and a more comprehensive grasp of the subject matter.

An integral aspect of my approach is highlighting the connections between related concepts. I strive to help students recognize the interrelationships among various ideas, enabling them to see the bigger picture and develop a holistic understanding. Moreover, I emphasize the application of learned concepts to new and unfamiliar topics, encouraging students to apply their knowledge in practical contexts.

As a visual learner myself, I leverage visualization techniques in my teaching. I often prompt students to imagine scenarios or visualize questions, creating a vivid mental representation that aids in comprehension. By engaging students' visual thinking, I enhance their understanding and facilitate effective learning.

By combining elements of exploration, conceptual linking, and visual learning, I create a dynamic and immersive learning experience for my students. My goal is to empower them with not only the knowledge required for their exams but also the skills and mindset to approach new challenges with confidence and critical thinking.

During my time as a volunteer tutor with my school's Interact Club, I had the privilege of teaching English and Math to underprivileged children. At the outset, these students displayed little interest and often became frustrated with difficult questions. However, through patient, incremental steps, I helped them build confidence and a genuine love for learning. Over time, they improved their problem-solving skills and spelling, eventually developing excitement for tackling new challenges.

This experience brought me immense joy and a sense of fulfillment as I witnessed the children's academic progress and newfound enthusiasm for subjects that had previously bored them. It was heartening to observe not only their academic growth but also positive changes in their attitudes and curiosity. Throughout these two years, I honed my interpersonal skills, realizing the contagious nature of my positivity and enthusiasm. Most importantly, I learned that serving others and helping them succeed is my true source of happiness and fulfillment.

    My Teaching Style

I believe in the importance of gaining a thorough understanding of a subject by viewing knowledge as interconnected systems. Through my own experiences, I have found that understanding how one concept relates to another or builds upon a previous concept can provide a more comprehensive and holistic perspective. As an educator, I strive to cultivate this understanding in my students by drawing novel and unexpected connections between concepts and even across subjects.

In addition to developing a strong understanding of the subject matter, I place great emphasis on building a trusting and meaningful relationship with my students. My own interest in physics was sparked by a primary school science teacher who took the time to understand my struggles with the subject and offered support and guidance that ultimately helped me to discover my passions and aptitudes. I believe that a personable teacher who can connect with students on a personal level can transform the most challenging subject into a source of joy and inspiration. As an educator, I seek to engage with my students in a meaningful and impactful way that inspires them to reach their full potential.

    My Teaching Style

My teaching philosophy centers on fostering independent understanding in students by guiding them through the learning process until they arrive at their own insights. I firmly believe that when students can establish these connections independently, rather than relying solely on the teacher's explanations, they internalize the content and expand their knowledge base.

Following my explanations, I encourage students to articulate their understanding of the topic in their own words, ensuring they are on the right track. While I have primarily taught girls thus far and am more comfortable with that, I am open to working with students of any gender, as my ultimate goal is to empower all learners to achieve their academic success.

During private tutoring, my priority for every lesson will be to clarify any doubts the student have regarding topics/concepts taught during school lessons in their lecture notes and tutorials. I will then move on to practising questions regarding that specific topic till mastery of concept.

I seldom or rarely advance into topics ahead of time as I believe it is more crucial for the student to understand previous/current topics fully and sufficiently before going onto the next topic. I believe this will be greatly beneficial in building the student's foundation and basics in the subject.

    My teaching style

As a student who made the transition from the arts stream to the science stream (and even started studying Biology only in JC), I can empathize with the initial challenges and uncertainties that come with such a shift. However, this journey also allowed me to acquire valuable techniques that facilitate the comprehension of these subjects. I am eager to share these strategies and insights with other students, helping them unlock their full potential.

My teaching method begins with a comprehensive assessment of students' understanding of the subject matter. I pay close attention to identifying any foundational weaknesses, as I believe that addressing these misconceptions is pivotal. These misunderstandings can often snowball and hinder comprehension of other aspects of the subject. Once these areas have been addressed, I guide students through the content chapter by chapter, ensuring they have a strong grasp of each topic before encouraging them to apply their knowledge in practical exercises.

    My Teaching Style

I'm a responsible and patient teacher with a real passion for chemistry. I genuinely enjoy helping others learn and believe in encouraging students to think for themselves instead of just giving them answers. I'm good at breaking down tricky concepts and using diagrams to make them easier to understand, especially for visual learners.

Here's how I like to teach: I start by helping students with the parts of a chapter they find tough. Then, I make sure they really get it by having them practice with relevant questions. After each lesson, I provide summaries, and I'm always there to answer questions throughout the week.

I've got some useful resources from my time studying chemistry at NYGH, like flashcards, past papers, and other study materials, which can be handy for exam preparation.

    My teaching style

My teaching approach places a strong emphasis on engagement. I am acutely aware that JC students often endure extensive lectures as part of their academic journey. To break free from this monotonous routine, I am dedicated to making my lessons as enjoyable as possible. I actively encourage students to ask questions and periodically incorporate various teaching methods to infuse novelty and interest into our sessions. This deliberate approach ensures that the content I teach is not only easy to comprehend but also leaves a lasting imprint in the minds of my students.

In addition to fostering engagement, I consider practicality a fundamental aspect of my teaching philosophy. Having recently completed my JC education, I possess a deep understanding of the challenges students encounter during their studies. Consequently, my teaching materials, including worksheets and notes, are thoughtfully designed with strategically placed questions. These questions expose my students to the types of inquiries commonly encountered in exams, effectively bridging the gap between theory and real-world application. Furthermore, I provide practical insights and real-world examples to facilitate the comprehension of intricate concepts, empowering students to excel in their examinations and equipping them with skills that extend beyond the classroom.
